LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Laser hair removal can remove almost all hair from any area of the body, in a few sessions and in a lasting way.

The laser used in Dr. HAVET’s office is a high-end device: the Gentlemax Pro by Candela. It allows totally effective and safe hair removal sessions, and treats all skin types, white, mixed race, black, tanned or not.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL: HOW DOES IT WORK?

The concept of the laser is simple: its light beam will target the melanin contained in the hair (its brown pigment). The melanin then absorbs the laser’s energy and is transformed into heat, until the hair’s root is destroyed.

Laser hair removal is a very effective and entirely safe aesthetic medicine treatment, with no risk to health or surrounding tissues, when practiced by a professional as is the case with Doctor HAVET.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL: FOR WHOM?

It is indicated for all the people, men or women, who wish to say goodbye to their hair in a quasi definitive way, and who do not wish any more to depilate with the traditional methods: razor, hot wax, cold wax, depilatory cream…

Laser hair removal is the ideal medical treatment for hirsutism, folliculitis of the beard and ingrown hairs.

The laser used in the practice is a high-end, high-powered laser with state-of-the-art technology. It is fast, efficient and versatile: it is the absolute reference for long-lasting laser hair removal (but also for the treatment of pigmentary disorders). This means that it is safe for hair removal – whether you have light, dark, matte or black skin.

On the other hand, white and red hair and very fine down cannot be treated by laser, so electric hair removal via thermolysis is preferred.

HOW MANY LASER HAIR REMOVAL SESSIONS ARE NEEDED?

It depends on the area to be treated: the skin phototype, the thickness of the hair, the abundance of hair, but also if the person suffers from hormonal problems.

On average, 6 to 8 sessions, each spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart, are typical.

In all cases, a treatment plan and an estimate will be established in a personalized way during the consultation.

WHY DO I NEED SEVERAL LASER HAIR REMOVAL SESSIONS?

This has to do with the hair cycle, which has 3 phases:

  • Anagen phase or growth phase
  • Catagenic phase or involution phase
  • Telogen phase or resting phase

Only the hairs in the growth phase are permanently destroyed, because they are attached to the root and it is the root that must be destroyed so that the hair does not grow back. This phase represents 10 to 30% of the hairs, so 10 to 30% of the hair is removed during each session.

The sessions are spaced 6-8 weeks apart in order to remove as much hair as possible during each session and thus gradually reduce the number of sessions.

The effects of laser hair removal are visible from the first session, even if not all the roots have been destroyed. Indeed, hair mass is reduced with each session, but those that do grow back are lighter, thinner and less visible. And this, even when you shave them (!), which is mandatory between each session.

HOW DOES A LASER SESSION AT DR HAVET’S OFFICE WORK?

During the consultation, an information sheet will be given to you and an estimate and consent will be signed.

Beforehand, the area to be treated must be shaved, except if it contains hair, as is the case for the face. In this case, the preparation of the hair removal will be done at the office, directly.

A laser hair removal session is quick: the laser we use is very precise and efficient, but the duration of the treatment depends of course on its surface. For example, a complete hair removal of the armpits takes about 10 minutes.

The doctor will carry out a clinical examination of your hair and your skin, and will follow the progress of the sessions, in order to perfectly set the laser. A local anesthetic cream can be applied to very sensitive areas such as the bikini area or the intimate lips.

Everything is done to limit pain as much as possible thanks to a cryogenic system that sends a very cold air at the same time as the laser shot, allowing a real patient comfort.

WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

The aftermath is very simple! You can get dressed and resume your activities as normal. In the following days, the hair will fall out by itself: it is advised not to pull on it and to let it happen.

Between sessions, the hair must be shaved and must not be removed, because the hair bulb is the laser’s target: if the bulb is removed, you must wait 3 weeks for it to grow back.

DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL HURT?

Our state-of-the-art laser features ultra-precise and fast technology and a state-of-the-art cooling system that makes the session fast and limits pain to a minimum.  It feels like a “rubber band” at the moment of the shot.

For certain very sensitive areas, a local anesthetic can be used (anesthetic cream).

LASER HAIR REMOVAL: IS IT REALLY PERMANENT?

Laser hair removal is said to be long-lasting: either the hair has completely disappeared, or it sometimes requires maintenance, for example a session every 2 years, but this varies greatly from one individual to another. Moreover, the thinness of the hair that could grow back is extremely soft, it is acceptable or requires only minimal maintenance, for example a shave every 3 months.

If there are still a few very fine residual hairs on the body or face that are resistant to laser treatment, it is possible to have recourse to electrolysis hair removal: a permanent and very effective hair removal solution.

SIDE EFFECTS OF LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

An erythema (redness) may appear and disappear within a few hours.

If practiced by a seasoned professional like Dr HAVET, laser hair removal is a safe and secure treatment (no burns, no marks), whatever the skin type.
