FANCYING A NICE FOREHEAD

The forehead, always in motion, and more or less depending on each individual, is one of the seats of our facial emotions. With age and repeated movements of the large and powerful forehead muscle, the forehead can become marked, even before the age of 30.

Aesthetic medicine offers non-surgical solutions to restore a more harmonious, nicely rounded and smooth forehead, and thus erase the negative expressions due to the wrinkles it may carry.

THE AESTHETICS OF THE FOREHEAD

The forehead occupies an important place in our face, the entire upper third is dedicated to it. It catches the light and a beautiful forehead enhances the eyes.

It can nevertheless be the seat of aesthetic imperfections:

  • Genetic and morphological, such as a hollow, flat or humped forehead,
  • Due to age, with the appearance of horizontal wrinkles, more or less marked, or vertical wrinkles located between the eyebrows (lion’s wrinkle), which give a preoccupied, tired or even severe look and accentuate the aging appearance of the face.

HOW AND WHY DO WRINKLES FORM ON THE FOREHEAD?

Horizontal wrinkles

Médecine etshétique du front à Saint-Martin / Guadeloupe / Saint-Barth - Dr Havet

They are the result of the contraction of the forehead muscle, a powerful, wide and vertical muscle, located just below the skin and extending from the hairline to above the eyebrows on both sides. It simply allows us to raise our eyebrows. It is called the skin muscle of the face.

The contraction of the forehead muscle causes forehead wrinkles to appear, these are dynamic wrinkles or expression lines. When young, they can only be seen when the area is in motion, when we look up to the sky or when we are surprised, for example. But little by little, as the skin loses elasticity due to skin aging, they will start to show up even when the muscle is at rest. The wrinkles are light at first, then the furrow deepens and becomes more difficult to correct. Expression lines then become permanent with a real break in the skin.

In some people, the forehead muscle is particularly powerful, even hyperactive, and causes the early appearance of horizontal folds, sometimes well before the age of 30.

The lion’s wrinkle (or glabella wrinkle)

These expression lines are also caused by the repeated contraction of a muscle: the corrugator muscle, deep and narrow, positioned diagonally above the head of the eyebrows. Unlike the forehead muscle, it allows us to lower and raise our eyebrows. Typically, it is the one we use to frown, when we are concentrating, worried, angry, etc.

Not everyone is in the same boat; some people have a particularly strong and mobile muscle, and the wrinkles between the eyebrows form more easily. Thus the expression wrinkle becomes permanent.

This area is particularly important because it impacts the life of the relationship. Indeed, a permanently frowned appearance gives an impression of severity, which is referred to as a negative emotional attribute. The treatment of this area has a strong power in the overall management of the face, it is a key area. The benefit is strong because it allows for a calm, pleasant and friendly face.

Crow’s feet wrinkles

This is the third most popular area for forehead treatment. Crows’ feet wrinkles are located at the outer corner of the eye. They are due to the contraction of the orbicularis muscle and extend like a sunbeam. This muscle closes and shrinks the eye when smiling. Treatment of this area smoothes the wrinkles around the eyes and at the same time relaxes the eyes. It also raises the tail of the eyebrow, which makes the eyes look so pretty!
