LIP AND MOUTH TREATMENTS WITHOUT SURGERY
The mouth and lips are a key area of the face. They too are subject to the effects of aging and by their complex nature, because they are always in motion, require special attention. It is therefore necessary to analyze them carefully in order to make corrections or to beautify them, but always in a natural way that respects the proportions of the face. In general, hyaluronic acid is the reference treatment for redefining and plumping the lips.
THE STRUCTURE OF THE LIPS OF THE FACE
The lips are covered with skin on the outside of the mouth and mucosa on the inside. Under the mucosa is the connective tissue with various glands. It is a very mobile area with many muscles. The main constrictor muscle is the orbicularis, it is the one that closes the mouth in O, the main dilator muscle is the buccinator.
The functions of the lips are multiple, it is the entrance door of the mouth. They have a mechanical role in grasping food, a determining role in speech and communication, and a sensory role with numerous sensors.
The lips are the symbol of sensuality and allow kissing, it is an extremely important area in the face.
AGING OF THE PERIORAL AREA
Subjected to significant mechanical constraints, but also to external aggressions and in particular the sun, the perioral region undergoes the effects of skin aging and wrinkles.
Over the years, we can distinguish in a more or less important way, depending on the person:
- A loss of lip definition. The reliefs become blurred, the transition zones between the red and white lips become blurred. The hem of the lip disappears, as well as the cupid’s bow and the philtral ridges become flattened.
- A loss of volume and almost constant dehydration. The lips become thinner and shrink.
- An elongation of the upper lip (or upper white lip) that changes the proportions of the face.
- Vertical wrinkles of the upper white lip (“bar code” or “sun crease wrinkles”). Smokers do tend to have such wrinkles.
- The corners of the mouth pointing downwards, which become more pronounced towards the chin (bitterness folds or marionette lines), and which give the impression of a sad face.
WHY AND HOW TO BEAUTIFY YOUR LIPS?
Lips express sensuality, glamor, kisses… Embellishing this area in a natural and discreet way is a common request at any age.
Hyaluronic acid injections can be used to plump up the lips, redesign them, slightly increase their volume, or correct asymmetry.
Lip treatment is part of a whole. Indeed, it is essential to take into consideration the entire mouth area, from the front and from the side, so that the result harmonizes perfectly with the whole face and is, de facto, perfectly natural.
I WANT TO INCREASE THE VOLUME OF MY LIPS
We may have naturally thin lips and want to plump them up, or we may find that our lips have become thinner with age, giving our face an unjustly pinched and unattractive look.
Hyaluronic acid injections are the reference treatment for naturally increasing lip volume.
Dr. HAVET uses a hyaluronic acid that is both flexible and volumizing, specially designed to be injected into the lips.
He will take the time to analyze the proportions of your face and according to your desires, will inject the product with the cannula. The cannula is a flexible, fine needle with a round, foamy tip. It is used more and more in aesthetic medicine because it allows the doctor to make only a micro opening to insert the cannula. For the patient, it is more comfortable, less painful, no or almost no post-injection swelling or bruising.
The result lasts on average 6 months to 1 year.
I WANT BETTER SHAPED LIPS
One can be quite satisfied with the volume of one’s lips, but sometimes they can lack definition, or present a slight asymmetry. The art of lip restructuring lies in the ability to redraw the lip contour, rebalance asymmetrical lips, or simply plump up the cupid’s bow.
MY LIPS ARE DRY
Dry lips appear thinner, with vertical wrinkles, less fleshy, and also paler because the dryness attenuates their color. One of the advantages of hyaluronic acid is that it acts as a sort of water captor, and rehydrates the epidermis deeply and durably.
If volume is desired, the lips are moisturized as a bonus. And if you don’t want to add volume, Dr. HAVET will choose a hydrating but non-volumizing hyaluronic acid. For a result that lasts several months!
I HAVE WRINKLES ABOVE MY LIPS
Vertical wrinkles on the top of the lip are quite common and are the result of aging skin, sun exposure and repeated movements of the mouth: whistling, drinking through a straw and especially smoking are activities that, because of the shape our lips take, gradually mark this area.
This famous “bar code” as it is trivially called can be treated with hyaluronic acid injections, but sparingly, and of a moisturizing nature and very little volumizing (unless the fold is very deep). The idea is to redensify the skin and naturally smooth fine lines.
I HAVE DROOPING CORNERS OF MY MOUTH
One of the consequences of sagging facial skin is that the corners of the mouth tend to sag. This is all the more obvious if the shape of the mouth is naturally oriented downwards. Sometimes, the phenomenon is accentuated and a fold (the bitterness fold) takes shape and extends to the chin, giving a sad and tired look.
A small injection of hyaluronic acid targeted at the corners of the mouth will help to avoid this problem and give your face a positive, pleasant look. The doctor can also complete this injection with a touch of botulinum toxin in order to raise the muscles that may tend to pull the lips downward.
